Taken quite early this morning ... all the hard work with the irriation is really starting to pay off. Perenial grass is at least waist height on the cows now & they are loving it!

This is my photo of the morning though ... I love the intense concentration on Ginger Megg's face :)

What a spectacular sunrise we had again this morning - photos taken just after 5:30am. A burnt orange sky in the east and gorgeous pink highlighted clouds in the west. They are forecasting a possible thunderstorm again today so I'm guessing this is the reason for the colours in the sky ... how does that saying go "A red sky at night a sailor's delight ... A red sky at morning a sailor's warning"!?! The clouds have all but gone now (7:45am) and we have a clear blue sky - you would never know what you missed out on if you had slept through it this morning!

St Catherine's Catholic Church - Gingin. Was a little early for a hair appointment yesterday so took a quick drive around town and discovered a Church I'd not seen before (how I'd missed it, I have NO idea). A quaint wooden building but real hard to get a good photo of due to the electricity wire (yes, I know I could do lots of post photo editing and make it disappear) and it also had a HUGE air conditioner sitting just above the doorway. At least from this angle you can hardly see the air con and the wire sort of blends into the angle of the Church. I found it to have some beautiful stained glass windows and a small stone grotto where I photographed "Mary" ... at least I think that is who she looks like. I love how the sun was just touching her face.

Phew, so glad we have some real internet access again. I ended up upping our GB limit so we could get online again. I couldn't even send/receive emails, which has been super frustrating to say the least! Anyway, enough of my whinging! LOL
While outside yesterday I spied this little monitor - he was about a foot long and I had to follow him around the house for quite some time until he'd allow me to get close enough to take a photo. I think he understood that I meant him no harm and ended up allowing me to get quite close. I guess he walked through a cobweb as he's got some white feathery stuff stuck to the top of his head above his left eye!

Had to be in Perth all day today so went to visit with Andrea for a few hours, for which I was super grateful for. While there instead of making cards we talked lots about photography etc. Andrea had some home made bubble stuff so we headed outside to take some bubble photos and while there this gorgeous butterfly dropped by and allowed one photo too.

This was a fun opportunity for me. Our niece Sari was practice show jumping with her horse Buddy and although we only got to see her ride twice for about 5 minutes each time I did manage a few shots & these two were my favourite picks of the day.

Project 365 - The Internet!

Hello fellow bloggers, just a short post to let you know that we've managed to go over quota with our internet this month so for the next week we've been slowed to an absolute SNAILS PACE and it's nigh on impossible to upload photos as stuff just times out. So I'm not opting out and won't cheat but will continue to take my photos daily, just won't be uploading them here until the 10th or 11th when our new internet month kicks in. It can't come soon enough ... seriously, it's like being back in the stone ages! Really makes you appreciate what we have today compared to even 5 years ago! :)) So drop back here on the 11th for a huge back log of entries or subscribe to my feed via email and you'll get notification when I next post! Project 365 - Day 166 - Lighting

Lighting can make a big difference on the outcome of your photo! Sticking with still life today I've incorporated 2 loves here - craft and photography! Paper is an old Basic Grey and the brad is one of Stampin' Up!'s Flower Brads. Camera settings were: Shooting Mode: AE (aperture priority); F2.8; ISO 100; Shutter Speed 1/15th. All are straight from camera with no adjustments at all.

Back lit and my favourite of the day! I like the dark, moody feel it envokes.

Front lit - my least favourite of the day. Although you can make out the texture/colours on the paper it makes the brad look over exposed.

Side lit - would be my 2nd favourite as the lighting isn't as harsh as the front lit photo but it doesn't have the depth of the back lit photo.

Was uninspired to head outside and take another photograph of whatever is out there. I did try for a close up of the magpies that like to reside around the house but they weren't going to allow me to get real close. So ... I decided to get a little creative. Had this burst of inspiration while looking through a dictionary over the weekend (was playing online scrabble & I needed help!!) and well, here's my burst of inspiration. A dictionary, a wedding band and a heart shadow. Even got the Canon & my macro lens out for this one ... hope you like it!

I could have bored you yet again with another gorgeous sunrise, however decided to try something different today. Brian and I treated ourselves to a Nespresso Coffee Machine the other week so here's our morning cuppa 4 ways. Having a little fun with Picnik before it closes forever in April. :)

Crepuscular Rays - also known as 'God's Rays'. Taken from Judy & Darry's house last night. We joined them for the Australia Day fireworks but didn't get to see much of them due to the cloud cover & rain. Mother Nature however put on an awesome display for us with another lightning show!

This Lady, part of a statue in our garden, has been transformed from an average photo to this work with the help of adding just 2 textures from Picnik. I love how she has turned out!
It's super hot outside - currently 43.4oC (over 110oF!) - a good day to stay inside with the air conditioning on and play with photo editing software!

Went to Kalamunda Farmer's Market this morning with Brian for a Belmont Camera Club outting. Think it'll be a much better market when the weather cools, although we picked up some great fruit and I got a few photos (most important!!).

Project 365 - Day 155 - Wannamal

Ok ... warning ... big post coming! As Brian was working today I decided to head up to Wannamal Lake as I noticed while driving past yesterday that there was still good water and lots of birds. I also hunted out the cemetery and found a memorial to Brian's family, who were a pioneering farming family of the district.

In honour of Brian's Grandparents - Pioneers of the Wannamal District. The original farm still owned by Brian's Uncle.

Oh my goodness ... I just about had an arachnoleptic fit when walking around and nearly walked into this Golden Orb spider! I should add the spider was approx. 10cm+ long (so yes, HUGE). Their venom is toxic but not to humans and when seen in the right light their web has a beautiful golden hue.

Finally the swans, this was the closest they came to me. It was good to see so many out there with the ducks and other birds.

not sure what this grass is called but it's the variety that has taken more so than the one below

I took a good number of close up photos of the sprinkler this morning trying to show the power of the water - I think it puts out about 200L a minute through this sprinkler and it has a huge throw on it! I think I've captured a little of it's power here. Hope you agree. No blue sky here now ... it's very overcast & dark skies. A little thunder out there and hopefully that is all we get ... have I ever mentioned how much I dislike summer!?!

Jessie and I went for an early morning walk today and I found a mallee tree just smothered in flowers. They have a nice glow about them in the early morning light!

These tracks are over a 150m section of road - I think they belong to a young monitor :)

Bust of Queen Elizabeth of Bohemia (The Winter Queen) c1641 - on display at the Princely Treasures display at the Perth Art Gallery.

This fabulous "Airgun" butt probably belonged to George II of Great Britain and was active 1730-1753 ... the workmanship is just awesome!

On display in the Art Gallery in Perth ... just loved this piece!

Had another amazing lightning show over Perth in the wee hours of this morning - I woke up around 4.40am and headed outside with the camera. Unfortunately I couldn't find my tripod (and didn't want to disturb Brian) so I wasn't able to get any photos of the lightning but did manage this one of the pre-dawn sky.

Ok ... seriously not a very clear photo as the poor little Lumix was on full zoom but I found a gathering of Rainbow Bee eaters down the back of the farm while running Jessie just now ... my plan over the next few days is to head back that way with the Canon and the zoom lens and without motorized transportation and definately without Jessie and see if I can't get a much clearer photo of one of them! Their colours are just amazing and I'd like to try my hand at some bird photographs - have some some great bird photographs the last few days which have me inspired!

I wouldn't class the photos as particularly good photos, but I wanted to show just how much rain we had this morning. I've NEVER seen our yard flood like this front or rear! We've had the most wicked storm, so much lightning and thunder and rain! I am thankful that it has eased up now, not that I am particularly scared of storms but I got sick of pushing Jessie off my lap, poor thing has been scared witless. I can understand why so many animals go missing in storms!
I am most grateful for the rain though, with so much feed still around with all the lightning, it could have ended a lot worse than a little garden flooding and 7 containers around the lounge room to catch the drips through the ceiling!

The calm after the storm ... this was the scene around 6pm taken from the back paddock looking back towards the house ... one would never know that we'd had 68.5mm today!!!

This upside down dung beetle must have been 'drunk' on dung as he just couldn't stay upright no matter how many times I rolled him over. Quite funny to watch. I eventually just left him to his own devices.

I had to be in Joondalup for an appointment today so took the time to drive to the beach ... I pretty much had the beach to myself as the wind was blowing a gale! I didn't stay too long as I would have ended up with wind burn I think!

Found in the back blocks of Chittering back in July while Brian and I were out wandering one Sunday, I happened across the same little road today on my way home from Bullsbrook and immediately knew what my photo today was going to be! A grape vine and fig tree are nearby so I'm guessing that there possibly used to be a house close by at some stage too, although no signs remain now.

This stick insect was clinging to the fly door and was quite ok with me taking photos from afar but got a little nervous when I started poking the camera lens in his face! lol
I can't believe that tomorrow will be Day 100 - I have a camera club outting so should have a good number of photos to pick from!

I've passed this little house 100's of times over the last 25+ years and it's only ever the 2nd time I've stopped to take photos. I think it's a shame that it's slowly going to ruin and can only imagine what memories it may hold.

The sky is an amazing cloudless, brilliant blue today - tried to capture that using the orange from the Christmas tree as a contrast but not so sure I've captured it as well as it could be. The little 'white spots' are some of the 100's of bees currently favouring this tree.

The Brief - Macro Foam ... best viewed large

The Brief - Panning (movement of ribbon or camera) - this entry was removed by Canon, I think due to the image not being a high enough resolution ... other possible reasons were that it does not fit the brief adequately or something in the entry was rude or inappropriate. Was most discouraged by this as it took me a long time to get this shot. I didn't resubmit as I just ran out of time.

The Brief - Through your pet's eyes ... Jessie was sitting right beside me when I took this photo and as you can see the cow is checking her out.

The other briefs were sequins and powder and although I did try for those too I just wasn't happy with the end results.

Such a pretty colour compared to most of them that are predominately white. I dropped in to see the neighbour for a quick cuppa and 3.5 hours and a bottle of wine later I got home, so that is why this is only being posted now and didn't get posted last night. Happy Wednesday everyone!

Unfortunately I didn't get as close as I would have liked to this monitor this morning before he took a dive into the roadside verge, but still, it's fabulous to see wildlife like this so close to home. Much better than the slithering, legless versions!!! Taken about 100m from our front gate.

Well, really only one bug. I did stop to take a photo of the flower but once I saw the little red critter he was my main focus! I loved the contrast of his bright red on the pale yellow flower.

Obviously the one at the bottom is a species of ant, however I've never seen an insect quite like the one at the top - he sort of looks like an ant, with a dragonfly tail, has wings and flies!?! Weird!

Isn't he just awesome! He's been hanging around the back door and the garden outside the kitchen today. Only quite young I would think at 15cm, as they grow as big as 60cm!

I headed outside this morning and saw this gum tree flower hanging by a spider thread, swinging in the breeze. Obviously not something you see everyday so had to take advantage of that! The spider thread was so fine you couldn't see it so it was almost like the flower was hanging by nothing and being as it was constantly moving it wasn't an easy shot to get the flower in focus. Looks best when viewd large.

One of the grasses in the paddock that has just finished flowering ... the colours are quite unusual!

I think this one is like a flying ant or something - a little over 1" in size it's quite big. Photo is straight from camera - AV mode, monochrome picture style, WB set to Tungsten Light.
